  • OSHA Certified: Ensure all crane baskets are OSHA certified before operating and keep an operator’s manual on hand. Create a lift plan in advance of your project if multiple cranes will be in use.
  • Safety Equipment: Wear proper safety equipment including hard hats, safety glasses, harnesses, and lanyards. Before operating, set the crane’s brakes and check that all hooks and attachments are working properly to prevent accidental opening.
  • Safety Test: Perform a safety test and weight check on your crane basket before each use. This includes checking all controls, safety devices, and rigging lines.
  • Secure Harnesses: Tie off safety harnesses to ensure a secure attachment to the crane basket. Harnesses must be attached to designated anchor points and worn by all occupants of the crane basket at all times.
  • Trained Personnel: Only allow trained and licensed operators to use personnel lifting equipment. In addition to the crane operator and the basket occupants, you should have trained personnel on the ground to guide movement.
